Mrs. Caliendo's Third Grade News
August 30, 2019

Happy Friday! We had a terrific first week in 3rd grade! We really got to know each other. I am looking forward to a wonderful year with my new students!

Families, please make sure you check my blog weekly. I will send an email with the link every Friday.

This afternoon, we worked on designing a class crayon. In our all school read aloud assembly, all of the grades came together to share their class crayon. We discovered that we are all unique, but when we come together the picture is complete!

Today, your child brought home an "Extra! Extra" Read all about Me!" poster (Panther Poster). These will be due back on or before Friday, September 6th.

Just a reminder: Please label all envelopes sent in with:  your child's name, their grade, what is in the envelope, and my name.

Curriculum Night is Wednesday, September 4th, 6:30-8:00. It is for PARENTS ONLY. I am looking forward to seeing you!
We will be F & P testing on Friday next week.

Let's make it a great year!

Next Week:

Social Studies  We will study directions. Students will learn about cardinal and intermediate directions.

Spelling
We are continuing the spelling series Words Their Way. Fortunately, the students have worked with this program in 2nd grade.  I will give an inventory test on Tuesday. Students will be working with patterns that they struggle with during our ELA block.

English Language Arts We will be reading How I Spent My Summer Vacation. Students will be writing a response about their own summer vacation. We will also be reading If You Take a Mouse to School. The reading skill we will focus on is cause & effect.

Students brought home their September reading log. During each month, they are expected to read for 20 days. Each day they should read for at least 20 minutes.  This log should be turned in at the end of the month, and will be part of their grade.

Mrs. Caliendo's Math Class Please check Power school for your child's math teacher (we do switch for Math). We will start Math on Tuesday. Students will be taking a pretest next week to see what they know!
