Ms. Zurales' 3rd Grade News
March 23, 2018

ELA. We are reading the novel The One and Only Ivan. Students are completing a packet that addresses multiple reading skills. Our grammar focus will continue with prefixes & suffixes.

The March Reading Log is due on Tuesday, April 3.
SPELLING  New sorts will not go home until after spring break.

SOCIAL SCIENCE Social Studies:  We will continue learning about Chicago.

MATH  Ms. Zurales' math class:  We will be finishing up Unit 6.  A study guide over Unit 6 will go home on Tuesday, April 3. It will be due on Friday, April 6. Our next Multiplication fact quiz will cover a mix of all the facts 0-12. It will be Wednesday,
April 4.

If your child should forget their Student Book or their Home Connections workbook at school, they can go into my google math classroom from a home computer and print the page they will need to complete for homework.

Important Dates & Announcements

The second week after Spring Break starts our PARCC testing.  
Chromebooks will need to be fully charged every night
and earphones should be brought to school daily!  A mouse is also an
excellent tool for PARCC tests. If your child does not have headphones
or a mouse, Spring Break week might be a good time to buy them!

Ms. Zurales' 3rd Grade News
March 16, 2018

ELA. We are began our final ELA unit which will focus on "standing up for what you believe in." We are reading the novel The One and Only Ivan. Students are completing a packet that addresses multiple reading skills. Our grammar focus will be on prefixes & suffixes.

Don't forget to read 20 minutes each night and record it in the March Reading Log.
SPELLING  New sorts will not go home until after spring break.

SOCIAL SCIENCE Social Studies:  We will continue learning about Chicago. We will have our first test on Monday, March 19. A study guide went home this week. Students were given time in class to fill it out. They will be able to use it for the test on Monday. Please review it with them and make sure it it filled out completely. Next week, we will be learning about the waterways in Chicago and making sailboats.

MATH  Ms. Zurales' math class:  Students are investigating area and perimeter and different ways to measure polygonsOur next Multiplication fact quiz on the 12's will be Wednesday.

Important Dates & Announcements

On Thursday, March 22, we will be going to the Shedd Aquarium. Please send your child with a brown bag, throw away lunch, with their name clearly marked on the outside of the bag. These will be carried by our chaperones and then thrown away after our lunch time. 

Also, please make sure they are wearing comfortable shoes.  T

Also, no money is necessary.  There will be no time for shopping in the gift shop.  We also ask that student cameras and cell phones stay at home.

Ms. Zurales' 3rd Grade News
March 9, 2018

ELA. We are beginning our final ELA unit which will focus on "standing up for what you believe in." We will read the novel The One and Only Ivan. As we read the novel, students are completing a packet that addresses multiple reading skills.

Leprechaun traps are due on Thursday, March 15th. Students should fill out the Leprechaun planning page in Google Classroom by March 15th as well. We will be writing a "How to" paper. I look forward to seeing the students' traps.

Don't forget to read 20 minutes each night and record it in the March Reading Log.
SPELLING  Three items on the menu, 1 from each column, are due on or before Friday, Mar 16, the day of the test.  If students are using their time wisely, they will be able to complete all 3 activities during centers. Ask them how many they have done.

SOCIAL SCIENCE Social Studies:  This was Mr. Blocker's last week in our class. We appreciate the time he dedicated to our class and all that he taught us about a city.We will continue learning about Chicago. Students will be working on answering text dependent questions about The First Chicagoans, The Founding of Chicago, and The Railroads. We will have our first test on Monday, March 19. A study guide will be coming home next week. Students should use the study guide and their Chicago packets to study for the test.

MATH  Ms. Zurales' math class:  There will be a Polygons & Quadrilaterals Checkpoint Quiz on Monday. A study guide went home on Thursday to help prepare for the quiz. We will continue with quadrilaterals: writing riddles and finding perimeters. Our next Multiplication fact quiz on the 11's will be Wednesday.

Ms. Zurales' 3rd Grade News
March 1, 2018

ELA  The students did an amazing job presenting their country reports. I enjoyed learning
about their connections. Next week we will continue reading non fiction text and
working on text features.

The March Reading Log went home today.

SPELLING  New Spelling sorts will go home on Monday. Three items on the menu, 1 from each column, are due on or before Friday, Mar 16, the day of the test.  If students are using their time wisely, they will be able to complete all 3 activities during centers. 

SOCIAL SCIENCE Social Studies:  This is Mr. Blocker's last week in our class. He will be discussing how entrepreneurs promote a healthy economy within a city. We will continue learning about Chicago. We will finish making a Chicago flag, then students will be working on answering text dependent questions about Chicagoland, and Early Chicago.

MATH  Ms. Zurales' math class:  Next week we will be making tangrams and then constructing polygons. Our next Multiplication fact quiz on the 9's will be Wednesday.
