Reading  The students will continue working on their shared research project. They will create a digital slide presentation on their country highlighting important facts about it and how books are brought to people that live there.


Reading Logs February Reading logs are due Monday, March 2.


Language Arts 

Grammar  Lessons will review prefixes and suffixes.

Spelling An assessment was given today. New spelling words will go home next week.

Math  We fill finish Topic 12, Geometry early next week. Students will use clues about attributes to solve riddles about plane shapes and solid figures. An assessment will be given mid week. Our next topic will be Counting Money. Please send in your coins!

Math Facts Math facts should be reviewed daily. The Math flash cards that you purchased should be used to practice math facts as well as the one minute math practice worksheets that are brought home. Weekly timed tests are given.

Science  We will finish up the chapter on Light and Heat. Students will be given a study guide to complete and help them prepare for the assessment at the end of the week.

Bobby

Star Student of the Week Bobby was our star student of the week. When he is at school he likes recess, gym and reading. When he is at home he likes to play hockey. Bobby is a star because he helps his mom and dad. When he grows up he would like to be a hockey player. Thanks for sharing Bobby!








Important Dates & Announcements 

On Friday next week, we will be going on a field trip to Fullersburg Woods. This is an outdoor field trip. We will be outside for 1 1/2 hours. Please make sure to dress your child for the weather:  layers, hats, gloves, winter jacket and boots.  We will be walking on trails so boots are recommended. Please send your child with a lunch from home and a drink. We will not be back at school until after the lunch room is closed. Make sure to send a snack for the morning.

Reading Next week the students will be participating in a shared research and writing project. They will be researching how books are brought to children in different countries.


Reading Logs Please continue to read and help your child record minutes in their reading log. Six Flags Logs are due by Friday, Feb 27th.


Language Arts 

Grammar  Lessons will focus on antonyms and synonyms.

Spelling New words went home on Tuesday. Please make sure to keep them in a safe place so they can be used next week. An assessment will be given on Friday.

Math  We will begin Topic 12, Geometry. Students will learn:  to identify different solid figures, what shapes they can make by tracing solid figures, and about polygons and their attributes.

Math Facts Math facts should be reviewed daily. The Math flash cards that you purchased should be used to practice math facts as well as the one minute math practice worksheets that are brought home. Weekly timed tests are given.

Science  Students will learn how heat moves and about temperature. 

Gavin

Star Student of the Week Gavin was our star student of the week. When he is at school he likes math. When he is at home he likes to play hockey in his basement. Gavin is a star because he   scored 10 goals in hockey. When he grows up he would like to be a hockey player or a paramedic. Thanks for sharing Gavin!

Reading We will wrap up our close read on the article "Little Free Libraries Bring People Together" by finding evidence in the text to answer text dependent
questions. We will also be reading Biblioburro, by Jeanette Winter. It is a story about a man named Luis. Luis loves to read, but soon his house is so full of books there's barely room for the familyStudents will ask and answer questions to demonstrate understanding of key details in a text.

Math  Our topic in math is Three-Digit Addition and Subtraction. Students will use models to subtracting three-digit numbers with regrouping, practice subtracting three-digit numbers, and use logical reasoning to solve problems. An assessment will be given on Topic 11 on Friday.

Gabby

Star Student of the Week Gabby was our star student of the week. When she is at school she likes gym. When she is at home she likes to play outside. Gabby is a star because she is helpful. When she grows up she would like to be an animal trainer. Thanks for sharing Gabby!

Reading We will wrap up our close read on the article "Little Free Libraries Bring People Together" by finding evidence in the text to answer text dependent questions. We will also be reading That Book Woman by Heather Henson. Students will identify the characters, setting and plot in the story.


Reading Logs  February reading logs went home on Tuesday. Please continue to read and help your child record minutes in their reading log. Don't forget to record minutes in your Six Flags Log too. 

We had our January READING CELEBRATION on Tuesday. We celebrated with lunch in the classroom, a Magic School Bus Video and freeze pops. Students were also given a coupon for a free personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut. Way to go readers!

Language Arts

Spelling Please continue working with the words that were sent home on Monday. An assessment will be given on Thursday.

Math  Our topic in math is Three-Digit Addition and Subtraction. Students will explore different strategies for subtracting three-digit numbers. They will learn how to count forward and back from a three-digit number to find a missing part. Students will also learn to estimate the difference of three-digit numbers.

Star Student of the Week Kian was our star student of the week. When he is at school he likes math. When he is at home he likes to paint and read. Kian is a star because he is cool. When he grows up he would like to be a train driver. Thanks for sharing Kian!
