February 6, 2015

Reading We will wrap up our close read on the article "Little Free Libraries Bring People Together" by finding evidence in the text to answer text dependent questions. We will also be reading That Book Woman by Heather Henson. Students will identify the characters, setting and plot in the story.

Reading Logs  February reading logs went home on Tuesday. Please continue to read and help your child record minutes in their reading log. Don't forget to record minutes in your Six Flags Log too.

We had our January READING CELEBRATION on Tuesday. We celebrated with lunch in the classroom, a Magic School Bus Video and freeze pops. Students were also given a coupon for a free personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut. Way to go readers!

Language Arts

Grammar  Lessons will continue with adverbs.

Spelling Please continue working with the words that were sent home on Monday. An assessment will be given on Thursday.

Math  Our topic in math is Three-Digit Addition and Subtraction. Students will explore different strategies for subtracting three-digit numbers. They will learn how to count forward and back from a three-digit number to find a missing part. Students will also learn to estimate the difference of three-digit numbers.

Math Facts Math facts should be reviewed daily. The Math flash cards that you purchased should be used to practice math facts as well as the one minute math practice worksheets that are brought home. Weekly timed tests are given.

Science  Students will learn how heat moves and how it is measured.

Kian

Star Student of the Week Kian was our star student of the week. When he is at school he likes math. When he is at home he likes to paint and read. Kian is a star because he is cool. When he grows up he would like to be a train driver. Thanks for sharing Kian!
