SEL Our SEL focus this week was how to calm down Students learned to use their stop signal and name their feeling to start calming down. 

Social Science We will continue our inheritance and traits unit. 

English Language Arts   We will begin a unit on non-fiction text features.
Don't forget to turn in the January Reading Log. February logs went home today.

Spelling  New spelling words will go home Monday.

Mrs. Caliendo's Math Class  We will have the Unit 4, Measurement & Fractions Test on Tuesday, Feb 3. Please make sure your child's study guide is completed this weekend. It is due Monday. Review it with them as it will prepare them for the test on Tuesday.

Practice the x6 facts.  A fact quiz will be given on Thursday, February 6. It is NOT timed! Students are responsible for mastering the multiplication facts up to 12. The quiz will have about 26 math facts.  Flash cards are a great resource! 

If your child should forget their Student Book or their Home Connections workbook at school, they can go into my google math classroom - Calski Math Class from a home computer and print the page they will need to complete for homework.

We will be celebrating Valentine's Day. If your child would like to send in valentines, we have 23 students in our class. Please do NOT address each Valentine.

Social Science We will continue our inheritance and traits unit. 
English Language Arts/Social Science  We read Lesson 3, about people who come from all of the world to the U.S. Next week, we read Lesson 4: Life in America. Each lesson will be followed by a short open book/notes quiz.

Don't forget to read for 20 minutes/20 days. January Logs are due Friday, 1/31.

Spelling  New spelling words went home Monday. Your child should have completed 2 out of the 3 spelling menu activities. Please check in with them. We will work on the 3rd one this week. They are all due on Friday, January 31, the day of the test.

Mrs. Caliendo's Math Class  We will continue Unit 4, Measurement & Fractions. There will be a quiz on Monday, January 27, over measurement. Students will be given an item and they will have to decide what measurement (mass, volume, length) to use and what unit of measurement (ie: grams, kilograms, milliliters, meters) to use. Please review measurement with them. Our focus will be on fractions this week. Students will compare and order fractions. The study guide will go home at the end of the week and is due on Monday, Feb. 3. The Unit 4 test is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 4.

English Language Arts/Social Science  We will continue a unit about people moving from place to place. We will read about ethnic neighborhoods in Lesson 2. There will be short, open book, open notes, graded reviews. These will occur after each section/lesson in the unit.

Don't forget to read for 20 minutes/20 days.

Spelling  We had an assessment today. New words will go home Tuesday.

Social Science We will continue our inheritance and traits unit. Students will construct bar graphs on posters of their own traits and observe the graphs to look for patterns. 

Spelling  New spelling words went home Monday. Your child should have completed 2 out of the 3 spelling menu activities last week. Please check in with them. We work on the 3rd one this week. They are all due on Friday, January 17, the day of the test.

English Language Arts   Students will continue writing an argumentative piece on why they think the animal teeth they chose are the best to have.  Later in the week, we will be begin a unit about people moving from place to place. Our first lesson is about moving to a new community.  There will be short, open book, open notes, graded reviews. These will occur after each section/lesson in the unit.

Don't forget to read for 20 minutes/20 days.

Mrs. Caliendo's Math Class  We will begin Unit 4, Measurement & Fractions. Next week, students are learning about the difference between mass and weight and then use a pan balance scale to estimate, measure, and solve problems about mass. Please review telling time with your child. There will be quiz on Time on Wednesday.

Practice the x5 facts.  A fact quiz will be given on Wednesday, January 15. It is NOT timed! Students are responsible for mastering the multiplication facts up to 12. The quiz will have about 26 math facts.  Flash cards are a great resource!
