Mrs. Caliendo's Chronicles
January 10, 2020

Social Science We will continue our inheritance and traits unit. Students will construct bar graphs on posters of their own traits and observe the graphs to look for patterns.

Spelling  New spelling words went home Monday. Your child should have completed 2 out of the 3 spelling menu activities last week. Please check in with them. We work on the 3rd one this week. They are all due on Friday, January 17, the day of the test.

English Language Arts   Students will continue writing an argumentative piece on why they think the animal teeth they chose are the best to have.  Later in the week, we will be begin a unit about people moving from place to place. Our first lesson is about moving to a new community.  There will be short, open book, open notes, graded reviews. These will occur after each section/lesson in the unit.

Don't forget to read for 20 minutes/20 days.

Mrs. Caliendo's Math Class  We will begin Unit 4, Measurement & Fractions. Next week, students are learning about the difference between mass and weight and then use a pan balance scale to estimate, measure, and solve problems about mass. Please review telling time with your child. There will be quiz on Time on Wednesday.

Practice the x5 facts.  A fact quiz will be given on Wednesday, January 15. It is NOT timed! Students are responsible for mastering the multiplication facts up to 12. The quiz will have about 26 math facts.  Flash cards are a great resource!

If your child should forget their Student Book or their Home Connections workbook at school, they can go into my google math classroom - Calski Math Class from a home computer and print the page they will need to complete for homework.
