What are your plans for April?
Ms. Zurales' 3rd Grade News
April 26, 2019

ELA  We are reading the novel The One and Only Ivan. Students are completing a packet that addresses multiple reading skills. 

SOCIAL SCIENCE  We will continue our unit on Chicago. During this time, students are working on answering text dependent questions. We will take a look at political changes, the Jazz Age and the culture of Chicago. Students were given time to fill out the study guide in class. If they are not finished, it is due Monday, the day of the test. They will be able to use it for the test.


Don't forget to read for 20 days/20 minutes per night and record it. April logs are due Wednesday, May 1.

SPELLING  New sorts will go home on Monday. Three items on the menu, 1 from each column, are due on Friday, May 10.

MATH  Ms. Zurales' Math class: Students will be investigating perimeter and area when they measure polygons. There will be a quiz on dividing by 6s on Wednesday, May 1.

April 18, 2019

ELA  We are reading the novel The One and Only Ivan. Students are completing a packet that addresses multiple reading skills. 

SOCIAL SCIENCE  We will continue our unit on Chicago. During this time, students are working on answering text dependent questions. We will learn about rebuilding the city and The Chicago World Fair. A study guide for Chicago will be handed out next week. Students are responsible for filling it out. The test will be on Monday, April 29. They will be able to use it for the test. We have been working a brochure about a special place in Chicago. They are due on Monday. Please ask your child about this.

SPELLING  Three items on the menu, 1 from each column, are due on Friday, April 26, which is the day of the test.

MATH  Ms. Zurales' Math class: There will be a checkpoint quiz on polygons and quadrilateral on Monday. A study guide went home today. Please review this with them. Next week, we will be finding the perimeter of quadrilaterals.

There will be a quiz on dividing by 4s on Wednesday, April 24.

Bring the Change Spirit Week!
We are celebrating our PV Spirit Week next week 4/22-4/26 with a focus and a purpose. We are raising money for the Leukemia/Lymphoma Foundation while raising school spirit! Bring change for a great cause and wear something fun!  

Monday 4/22 - PJ Penny Day (wear your pajamas and bring in pennies)
Tuesday 4/23 - Neon Nickels Day (wear bright colors and bring in nickels)
Wednesday 4/24 - Dazzling Dimes Day (wear something shiny or unique and bring dimes)
Thursday 4/25 - Crazy Quarters Day (wear crazy socks or a hat and bring quarters)
Friday 4/26 - Team up for Leukemia (wear team jerseys or colors and bring all coins)

ELA  We are reading the novel The One and Only Ivan. Students are completing a packet that addresses multiple reading skills. We will focus on point of view next week.

SOCIAL SCIENCE  We will continue our unit on Chicago. During this time, students are working on answering text dependent questions. We are learning about the Chicago Fire. Students are making flip books to illustrate the events in that happened in the fire. They will also be writing a story about how the fire started from the point of view of the cow.

Don't forget to read for 20 days/20 minutes per night and record it for April.

SPELLING  New spelling sorts will go home on Monday. Three items on the menu, 1 from each column, will be due on Friday, April 26, which is the day of the test.

MATH  Ms. Zurales' Math class: As we continue our unit on Geometry, students will continue to strengthen their understanding of polygons.

There will be a quiz on dividing by 3s on Wednesday, April 17.

ELA We began our final ELA unit which focuses on "standing up for what you believe in." We are reading the novel The One and Only Ivan. Students are completing a packet that addresses multiple reading skills. Our grammar focus will be on similes and metaphors.

SOCIAL SCIENCE  We will continue our unit on Chicago. During this time, students are working on answering text dependent questions. Next, we will be learning about the waterways and the Industrial Boom. There will be a test on Monday, April 8. A blue study guide went home Thursday. Students need to have it filled out and with them on Monday. They will be able to use it for the test.

SPELLING  Three items on the menu, 1 from each column, are due on Friday, April 14, the day of the test.

MATH  Ms. Zurales' Math class: We will begin a unit on Geometry. Students will explore the attributes of quadrilaterals. 

There will be a quiz on dividing by 10s on Wednesday, April 10.
