Ms. Zurales' Class News
ELA We will continue our Culture and Traditions Unit. We’ are reading out of our Social Studies textbooks during our reading block, as we learn about immigration and culture.  Next week will discuss Lesson 4: "A New Life in America." Students have been collaboratively working on note taking and open book quizzes.

Don't forget to read for 20 minutes each night. January Logs are due on Wednesday, Feb. 1st. 
LANGUAGE ARTS Win groups will be changing next week. Our focus will be on vocabulary.

SPELLING  A spelling test was given today. New sorts will go home on Monday. Homework (3 items on the menu, 1 from each column) is due on Friday, February 10, which is also the date of the test. 

MATH Ms. Zurales' math class began our next unit Multiplication, Division & Area. Practice sheet will go home on Monday for the 10s multiplication facts. A 10s quiz will be given on Friday.

Spring Conferences are approaching. These are on an as needed basis. However, if you would like to sit down with me, look for my email on Monday with a link to sign up.

Science We will finish up our last lesson on how matter changes with an open book quiz on Tuesday. A study guide went home on Thursday for the Chapter Test on Matter. Please begin to review the material with your child. The test will be on Friday, Feb. 3. Students should use their vocabulary slides in google, their quick study worksheets, open book quizzes and their books to study for the test. The test will NOT be open book.

Ms. Zurales' Class News
ELA We will continue our Culture and Traditions Unit. Students are typing the chapters of their expository writing about the country their ancestors came from. The final copy is due on Friday. They will be given about 20 minutes per day, 3 days next week, to complete them. They should be working on them at home if they find they are not going to be done by Friday. Please have them refer to the expository checklist. Each paragraph should have a hook, which is a question sentence, 5 sentences with the facts, an ending or closing sentence and transitions (next, then, now) between paragraphs.

Practice sheet will go home on Monday for the 5s multiplication facts. A 5s quiz will be given on Friday. Our next Unit is Multiplication, Division & Area.

Science Students will continue learning about the states of matter. Their will be an open book graded quiz on Tuesday. Our next lesson will be on how matter changes.

Ms. Zurales' Class News
ELA We will continue our Culture and Traditions Unit. Students should be finished taking notes, in their composition notebooks, on their country. If they are not done, it should be finished up over the weekend. We will be typing the chapters of our expository/research paper next week. Don't forget to read for 20 minutes each night. 
LANGUAGE ARTS Our focus will be on Root words.

Science Students will be learning about the states of matter. 

Social Studies We talked about what a great and peaceful man Martin Luther King was. We are watching Our Friend Martin. We will finish it up on Tuesday.

Ms. Zurales' Class News
ELA We will continue our Culture and Traditions Unit.  Please be aware that we will be doing a lot of writing (and keyboarding) in the next few weeks as we begin our culture research projects.  Some writing will become homework, if necessary. January Reading logs went home on Tuesday. Don't forget to read for 20 minutes each night. 
LANGUAGE ARTS Our focus will be on Affixes.   

SPELLING  New words sorts went home on Tuesday. Homework (3 items on the menu, 1 from each column) is due on Friday, January 13, which is also the date of the test. 

MATH Ms. Zurales' math class will begin the week solving one step measurement story problems then we will work with measurement story problems that require more than one step and one operation to solve. There will be a measurement checkpoint quiz on Friday. We will be starting mad minutes with multiplication facts on Monday. A practice sheet will go home on Mondays and a 1 minute test will be given on Fridays. Next week will be the 2's.

Science Students will continue learning about the properties of matter. Next week we will explore buoyancy. There will be an open book/notes graded review covering Lesson 1, on Thursday.
