Reading Students were busy this week researching hippos or tortoises. They gathered information and completed a rough draft of their report. Next week they will finish writing their final copy. We will also read Tarra and Bella by Carol Buckly. It is about an elephant and dog who become best friends. Students will compare and contrast Tarra and Bella and Owen and Mzee.
Reading Logs Please continue to read and help your child record minutes in their November reading folder. Don't forget to log your minutes in your Six Flags Log too!
Language Arts
Grammar We will continue working with pronouns.
Spelling Students will continue their word study with the words they brought home this past Monday. The focus will be on vocabulary activities. Make sure to keep the words in the Ziploc bag and in a safe place so they can be used next week. An assessment will be given on Friday.
Math We had an assessment on Topic 6, finding sums using mental math on Thursday. We have begun the next topic, using mental math to subtract. The lessons next week will focus on subtracting multiples of 10 from 2-digit numbers using mental math, finding the missing part of 100 by counting up from the given part, and using a hundreds chart to find the difference between 2-digit numbers less than 100.
Math Facts Math facts should be reviewed daily. Use your flash cards to practice math facts as well as the one minute math practice worksheets that are brought home. Weekly timed tests are given.

Junior Achievement Ms. Constance, a volunteer from Junior Achievement, came to our class today to teach us about unit and assembly production. We compared unit and assembly-line production methods by making "donuts". Ask your child all about it. Next time we will learn about the economic role of government in a community.
Star Student of the Week Aaliyah was our star student of the week. When she is at school she enjoys math and social studies. When she is at home she likes to clean and play board games. Aaliyah is a star because she loves to travel around the world. Thanks for sharing Aaliyah!
