Reading When we return in January, we will be reading the story Officer Buckle and Gloria, by Peggy Rathmann. It is a humorous fictional story about a policeman who loves to give safety tips to school children, but nobody ever listens-until he brings his dog Gloria. Our comprehension strategy will focus on asking and answering questions such as who, what, where, when and why.
Reading Logs December reading logs are due on Monday, January 5. Please continue to read and help your child record minutes in their reading log. Don't forget to record minutes in your Six Flags Log too.
Language Arts
Grammar Lessons will focus on contractions.
Spelling New spelling words will go home on Monday when we return. Keep them in the Ziploc bag and in a safe place so they can be used during the first two weeks of January.
Math This week we began the topic Subtracting Two-Digit Numbers. We learned how to use connecting cubes, and paper and pencil to regroup and subtract. When we return, the lessons will focus on using workmats, cubes, subtraction frames, paper and pencil, and a number line to subtract two-digit numbers.
Math Facts Math facts should be reviewed daily. The Math flash cards that you purchased should be used to practice math facts as well as the one minute math practice worksheets that are brought home. Weekly timed tests are given.

Star Student of the Week Marcin was our star student of the week. When he is at school he enjoys gym, math and computers. When he is at home he likes to play video games. Marcin is a star because he is the best one at football. When he grows up he would like to be a football player. Thanks for sharing Marcin!
Thanks to Mrs. Rerucha, Ms. Gillespie, and Ms. Gogal for planning and attending our holiday party. Thanks to Mrs. Mrs. Powels, Mrs. Scheck, Mrs. Garcia and Mrs. Chapman for helping with food, drinks and party supplies. The kids had an awesome time.
