ELA  We’ll be learning about immigration and culture. Students will listen to a read aloud, Matchbox Diaries. It is an immigration tale. Later in the week, we will be begin a unit about people moving from place to place. Our first lesson is about moving to a new community.  There will be short, open book, open notes, graded reviews. These will occur after each section/lesson in the unit.

Make sure to read for 20 days (20 min each day) and record it in the January log.

SPELLING  New spelling sorts will go home Tuesday. Three items on the menu, 1 from each column, are due on Feb 1, the day of the test

SOCIAL SCIENCE  We will continue our unit on Balancing Forces. Students are reading about gravity and observing forces in chain reactions.

MATH  Ms. Zurales' Math class is working in Unit 4, Measurement & Fractions. Students will be working on measurement story problems and unit fractions. There will be a quiz on Friday over measurement. Students will be given an item and they will have to decide what measurement (mass, volume, length) to use and what unit of measurement (ie: grams, kilograms, milliliters, meters) to use. Please review measurement with them.

Our next Multiplication facts will be the 4s. This quiz will be Wednesday.
