Ms. Zurales' 3rd Grade News
February 1, 2019

ELA  We’ll continue learning about immigration and culture. We will read Lesson 4: Life in America. There will be a short open book quiz on Thursday. There will be a Chapter test over all 4 lessons. It will NOT be open book. Students should study their Lesson Reviews, Open Book Quizzes and the study guide which we will fill out in class. I will have a better idea when the test will be after this week.

February Reading Logs went home today. Make sure to read for 20days/20 minutes per night.

SPELLING  New sorts will go home on Tuesday. Three items on the menu, 1 from each column, are due on Thursday, Feb. 14, the day of the test.

SOCIAL SCIENCE  Science: We will continue our unit on Balancing Forces. In Chapter 4:  Why does the train float, even though gravity is acting on it? students will examine how 2 forces can be exerted on an object a the same time.

Social Studies:  We are fortunate to have Mr. Blocker as our Junior Achievement volunteer. He will be in our classroom once a week, for five weeks, for 50 minutes. He will be discussing the characteristics of cities and how people and businesses in cities manage their money. In our first session students will identify the different zones used in city planning and apply the information to organize businesses.

MATH  Ms. Zurales' Math class is working in Unit 4, Measurement & Fractions. Our focus will be on fractions this week. Students will compare and order fractions. The study guide went home today and is due on Thursday, Feb. 7. The Unit 4 test is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 8.

Our next Multiplication facts will be the 7s. This quiz will be on Thursday.
