Ms. Zurales' 3rd Grade News
February 8, 2019

ELA  As we continue with our culture unit, I will introduce the students to the research paper they will be writing.  It would be great if you could have a conversation with your child over the weekend about countries your family/ancestors immigrated to America from.

There will be a Chapter test over all 4 lessons on Wednesday, Feb. 13. It will NOT be open book. Students should study their Lesson Reviews, Open Book Quizzes and the study guide.

Don't forget to read for 20days/20 minutes per night and log it.

SPELLING  Three items on the menu, 1 from each column, are due on Thursday, Feb. 14, which is the day of the test.

SOCIAL SCIENCE  Science: We will continue our unit on Balancing Forces.  We will finish Chapter 4:  Why does the train float, even though gravity is acting on it? students will read the text Explaining a Bridge, which provides another context for applying ideas about balanced forces. They will also create physical models and discuss why the train floats.

Social Studies:  Mr. Blocker, our Junior Achievement volunteer will be back.
In session two, students examine the importance of money to a city.

We are making an immigration scrapbook. We will be writing a response to a scenario as if we were an immigrant.

MATH  Ms. Zurales' Math class will begin Unit 5, Multiplication, Division & Area next week.

Our next Multiplication facts will be the 8s. This quiz will be on Wednesday.

XTRA Math:
Teacher email: szurales@ccsd66.org.

If your child should forget their Student Book or their Home Connections workbook at school, they can go into my google math classroom from a home computer and print the page they will need to complete for homework.
