Mrs. Caliendo's Chronicles
October 18, 2019
Social Science In our Downers Grove unit, we will be learning about the Chief Waubonsee.
Spelling New spelling words went home on Tuesday. Students are being asked to choose 3 activities, one from each column, on the Spelling Homework Menu. This will help them master their spelling words. If students are using their time wisely during centers, they should have plenty of time to complete this in school. Please work with your child and give them a practice test this week to prepare for the test on Friday, October 25.
English Language Arts We will begin the argumentative writing unit. Our activities will focus on descriptive writing.
Please keep track of your child’s reading (20 minutes, 20 days) and record it on the October log. It is due on or before November 5.
Mrs. Caliendo's Math Class We began the unit on Multi-digit Addition and Subtraction. Students are being introduced to the concepts of rounding 2 and 3 digit numbers to nearest ten and the nearest hundred. They will develop new strategies and adjust some of the strategies they learned to solve 3 digit story problems.
We will have a checkpoint quiz on Wednesday that will focus on rounding to the nearest 10 and 100 and solving multi-digit addition story problems. Please review rounding with your child this weekend. Please continue to practice addition and subtraction facts at home too.
If your child should forget their Student Book or their Home Connections workbook at school, they can go into my google math classroom from a home computer and print the page they will need to complete for homework.
WE had our first 3rd grade level SEL celebration. Students played Bingo using the language from our Second Step Curriculum. Ask them all about it.
The online sign up for parent teacher conferences went out last week. At this time, conferences are being held for homeroom students only. There are still openings. Here is the link if you have not yet signed up:
