Mrs. Caliendo's Chronicles
February13, 2020

SEL Our SEL focus this week was how to handle disappointment. Students learned:
  • Positive self-talk helps me calm down.
  • Setting a new goal and making a plan to achieve it is a positive way to handle disappointment.
Social Science We will continue our inheritance and traits unit. Students will learn that organisms can have traits that are similar to their parent's traits, can be like one parent, both parents, or a mix of both of their parents' traits.

We are fortunate to have Mr. Blocker as our Junior Achievement volunteer. He will be in our classroom once a week, for five weeks, for 60 minutes. He will be discussing the characteristics of cities and how people and businesses in cities manage their money. In our first session students will identified the different zones used in city planning and apply the information to organize businesses. In session two, students examined the importance of money to a city.

English Language Arts   We will discuss text structures.
Don't forget to read for 20 min/20 days and record it in the February log.

Spelling  New spelling words will go home Tuesday.

Mrs. Caliendo's Math Class   I enjoyed meeting with many of you this week. Thank you for taking the time to discuss your child's progress with me.  As we continue Unit 5, Multiplication, Division & Area, students will continue learning to solve and create multiplication and division story problems, and explore fact families.

Practice the x8 facts.  A fact quiz will be given on Thurssday, February 20. It is NOT timed! Students are responsible for mastering the multiplication facts up to 12. The quiz will have about 26 math facts.  Flash cards are a great resource!

If your child should forget their Student Book or their Home Connections workbook at school, they can go into my google math classroom - Calski Math Class from a home computer and print the page they will need to complete for homework.
